Welcome to Rudan Thursdays where we talk about…things! Anything from books and movies, to blog posts and authors, to food and drink.
Allow me to shine the spotlight on three lovely ladies whose recent blog posts really stuck with me. Without further ado…
Victoria Mixon
An oldie but goodie, Victoria guest-posted on Jami Gold’s blog back in November. In this post, she explained story climax and drew an excellent mental diagram of exactly how it is supposed to be laid out for the reader. Brilliant post Victoria, thank you!
Jami Gold
Speaking of Ms. Gold, back in January she asked a question that had been bugging me: Do you call yourself a writer or an author? Her answer is both smart and sassy, admirable qualities, those. Thank you for relieving me of that particular burden, Jami!
Jenny Hansen
Every time I see this post in my “saved” folder I smile. The ever intuitive Ms. Hansen hit the proverbial nail on the head with her list of 10 unusual things about writers. I remember reading this for the first time at my allergist appointment, and while waiting for my turn to get poked with needles, I sat in the corner snickering, snorting, and belly laughing. This is a real treat, and for those avid readers out there who haven’t given writing a shot…maybe give it a try 😛
And there you have it.
So talk to me. What did you think of Victoria’s take on story climax? Did her description resonate with you, as it did with me? And what about Jami’s answer to the writer vs. author question? What do you call yourself? How did you like Jenny’s 10 unusual things? Did you see yourself in her list?
Ooooh, Victoria is new for me, now I get to check out another awesome blogger. Of course I already love Jami and Jenny. Two amazing women who always have great information.
Definitely check her out, Tameri. She’s got a lot of really useful insights and info, much more than just the story climax 🙂 Yep, I’m a BIG fan of both Jami and Jenny!
Tameri, Victoria ROCKS. Truly some of the best writing advice on the web.
What a sweet post. I agree about Jenny’s incredible intuition. She’s such a darling.
She is! 🙂
Awwwwww. You just made my day with this, Ali. (Kate, you’re always jumping in and makin’ my day.)
Love all these posts, thanks for reminding me. I learned a lot from Victoria’s post, actually.
Wasn’t it really great? It really helped me. I’m glad you like them too!
Hi Kate,
Thanks for sharing Jenny’s article. I got a kick out of the one about lending books. I don’t lend books to anyone except my sister in law and my mother. I don’t like the way other people ‘bend’ them 🙂
I am VERY picky about who I lend my books to. I have to really like the person, and sometimes I won’t even offer then! LOL
Kate, thanks for the post. You made my week by putting me in a post with two ladies I respect so much. They are aces, and so are you. 🙂
You quite deserved it, m’dear. Thanks for always posting quality blogs 🙂
Haven’t checked out Victoria’s post yet, but I love Jami and Jenny’s posts. Just today, Jenny’s latest post got me really thinking about relationships and I’m with you that these women are phenomenal and everyone should read their blogs!!!
i did see myself and I always refer to my self as a writer. I have always said that I am not sure what and author is.
Wow! Thank you so much for including me in this list with some *real* rockstars. 🙂
As you know, I *love* Victoria’s guest post (as I was the one who *insisted* on that excerpt – LOL!), and I definitely see myself in Jenny’s post. Except the book organizing thing. *stares at avalaching books in TBR pile* Yeah, I’m not so good with the organizing. Hee.
Thanks again, Kate! You rock!
